Band & Orchestra Perform on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Each year on December 7th, the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, the Annual Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade takes place to honor the Pearl Harbor survivors, veterans, active duty military and their families. The Hill-Murray band and orchestra were invited to perform in the parade by Master Gunnery Sergeant Earl Hurrey, who is the music committee chair of the Pearl Harbor Commemoration Committee. This is the third time the band and orchestra have received the honor to perform in the ceremony. CLICK HERE to watch the band’s performance in the parade.

In addition to the parade performance, they had the opportunity to perform with the Marine Band of the Pacific and individually at the U.S.S. Missouri, Polynesian Cultural Center, and Ala Moana. The students were able to take time to sight see and to learn about the history of WWII and the culture of the Polynesian people.

The Nicholas Center (TNC), inspired by Saint Nicholas’ life of serving children, began ten years ago and has grown to accommodate nearly 20% of the Hill-Murray student body (grades 6-12). Its emphasis on creating individualized learning plans for its neurodiverse students ensures that students receive support and learning strategies to thrive in a challenging and engaging academic environment. TNC brings together the academic resources of guidance counselors, college counselors, peer listeners, trained tutors, and study labs. We encourage you to give to The Nicholas Center Endowment as a way to ensure this invaluable resource remains viable for future Pioneers.
