Happenings (March 17, 2023)

We’ve Done the Math… The Answer is Coffee!

Math students are serving up smiles before Spring Break! Mrs. Carlson’s 6th graders created class coffee and smoothie shops and learned how to run a business. They made real smoothies and lattes for the staff member of their choice. Students used estimation skills and spatial volume knowledge to recreate the drink on paper with measurements in ounces. They started their class business by brainstorming menus, compiling inventory lists, and acquiring the needed ingredients. Students will wrap up by determining if their shop will be successful after the class investigates profits and losses. “Customers” were happy to have a treat, and students had fun being creative with math!

It will be held held at CDH, 550 South Albert Street, St. Paul in the Fieldhouse from 6:30-8:00 p.m. It is a free event and freshmen, sophomores, juniors and their parents are invited. The bus will leave school around 10:15 a.m.  and return at dismissal so that students can attend practices or games. Students must bring their own lunch or a debit card or credit card to buy lunch; the field is cashless.
    • Cost: $22 charged to your TADS account.  This includes your game ticket of $12 plus the bus of $10.
    • Approximately 43 colleges will attend this event! All will offer information for students to take home.
