H-M Happenings (Dec. 3, 2021)

Toy Drive

The National Honor Society is hosting the annual toy drive now until December 16th. We are collecting toys for children, but this year the NHS would like to focus on gifts for teens. Please bring new, unwrapped toys, books, puzzles, games, gift sets, and other gifts to the sleigh at the front entrance from now until the end of the school day on Dec 16th. Gifts will go to the Salvation Army’s toy drive. God bless, and Merry Christmas!

Social Emotional Learning

Our 7th graders were introduced to a new social emotional learning curriculum this week in their Literature/ Language Arts classes. The curriculum is titled Turbo Leader and is in conjunction with ACT Mosaic. The curriculum uses this definition of leadership: power that comes from how we think and act

It encourages all students to consider themselves leaders each day, helping themselves and each other gain confidence.

The curriculum was created by Mawi Asgedom. Read more about him here: https://mawispeaks.com/

The curriculum is available to students through Google Classroom and includes videos, interactive segments, and opportunities for written reflection.

Mawi left a good first impression with the students, and already after the first lesson has students considering things in their own lives such as procrastination, balancing academics, sports/activities, and social aspects of life, and that their middle school years present them and their brains tremendous opportunities.

If you have questions of would like to discuss further, please contact Middle School Counselor, Mrs. Lisa Valentine at lvalentine@hill-murray.org.
