The Strength of a Pioneer

Dear Hill-Murray Community,

What a great week to be a PIONEER! I hope this message finds you well and filled with pride for our extraordinary Hill-Murray community.

On Friday afternoon, our Boys’ Soccer Team made history by securing the 2A State Championship Title at the iconic US Bank Stadium. In a thrilling match, they triumphed over Orono with a resounding score of 3-0. Last year, we came so close to this achievement, making this victory all the more sweet and satisfying! I want to express my gratitude to the entire Hill-Murray community for their unwavering support and encouragement for our boys on their journey to win State. This win marks the first-ever Boys’ Soccer Championship for Hill-Murray, and it is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our players and coaches. Congratulations to all those athletes, coaches, teachers, parents, and supporters involved!

Friday evening was another fantastic night and a momentous occasion as our community gathered to witness our Football team’s victory in the section title game against Chisago Lakes. Our boys pulled off the win with a final score of 42-36. We are now set to advance to the State Quarterfinal Game on Thursday, November 9th, where we will face Byron at Eastview High School in Apple Valley. Come out and support our Pioneers at 6:00pm! (TICKETS) Your continued support of our athletes is invaluable and is a true testament to the Pioneer spirit.

We also had two exceptional athletes at the Cross Country State Tournament this weekend. Olivia Braunshausen demonstrated her talent and dedication, finishing 23rd and earning well-deserved All-State Honors. Calista Berkley also showed her skills, finishing 80th in a highly competitive field. These accomplishments reflect the incredible dedication of our student-athletes at Hill-Murray.

As I walked through the halls these past few weeks, I could hear the students practicing for the Christmas Variety Show. It is a testament to the true spirit of what it means to be a PIONEER – the traditions, determination, excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication that define Hill-Murray School. I am immensely proud of our students, coaches, faculty, and the entire Hill-Murray community for their steadfast, unwavering commitment to success.

This past week, we had a visit from Hill-Murray alum Fr. Paul Treacy, pastor at Church of the Assumption, St. Paul, who led our All Saints Day Mass. After celebrating mass, Senior Isabella Afonso gave a speech on what it means to be a Pioneer, and I’ll close with her words.

“So, I challenge you to be Pioneers of kindness, compassion, empathy, and leadership…

I leave you with the promise that I learned as a Pioneer. To use the heart in the way it was created with love and for good. With an endeavor to fight to make every beat count.

With all my heart – Thank you.”

Sincerely,

Melissa Dan
