We know that academics are one component of our students’ lives. At Hill-Murray we value the whole person, mind, body and spirit. With this whole person focus, we understand the importance of emotional intelligence.

The RULER Method, developed by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, supports the cultivation of self-awareness, improving relationships and enhancing academic performance by integrating skills into everyday experiences. This is done through Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating emotions. In creating a climate where this is possible, our students can feel supported and success can be achieved.

One way to support the development of these skills is through utilizing the RULER app, How We Feel. This is a free app you can download on your phone/device that provides daily check-ins, tools for self-regulation, and builds awareness of emotions throughout the day. It can be used individually or shared with family members to encourage connection and conversation.

We will continue bringing awareness to these important skills through our Happenings articles, workshops and various pop up events. We look forward to learning and growing together with this vital skill.
