Spaces That Create Community

With the opening of our new Student Union, I have already noticed something simple but powerful: students lingering a little longer, conversations stretching past the bell, laughter echoing in ways that remind me why shared space matters.

This new Student Union is more than just new construction. It is a place designed to support the daily rhythms of student life. It’s a place to gather, to rest, to collaborate, and to be known. In a school day filled with movement and momentum it offers room for connection and presence.

As a Catholic school, we believe that formation happens not only in classrooms, but in relationships. The spaces we create communicate what we value. By investing in a Student Union, we are affirming that community, hospitality, and belonging are essential to who we are. Scripture reminds us that “where two or three are gathered,” something meaningful happens, and we see that truth lived out daily as students make this space their own.

Filled with natural light, the space invites both energy and calm, activity and reflection. It is a setting that encourages students to slow down, connect, and feel at home. The inclusion of the chapel entrance within the Student Union is especially meaningful, reminding us that faith is not separate from daily life, but woven into it. In the movement between study, conversation, prayer, and rest, students experience the wholeness of who they are called to be. It may surprise you to know that there is a beautiful gas fireplace in the space, creating a sense of home and warmth.

I am deeply grateful to the many people who made this possible: those who envisioned it, planned it, supported it, and waited patiently for its completion. Most of all, I am grateful for our students, whose energy and joy bring these walls to life.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to stewarding our facilities in ways that support the whole student in mind, body, and spirit. Our next major facilities project, Phase II: Weights & Wellness, will focus on renovating our weight room and wellness center. This work reflects our belief that physical health, resilience, and balance are integral parts of student formation. Just as the Student Union supports connection and community, these renovated spaces will support strength, wellness, and lifelong habits of care.

Together, these projects reflect a single purpose: creating environments where students can grow fully into who they are called to be. Thank you for being part of a community that believes so deeply in that mission. Looking forward to celebrating Catholic Schools Week next week. I am so proud of our student leaders who have planned fun activities, especially looking forward to celebrating all school Mass on Thursday with Father John, our Chaplain.

May we continue to be guided by gratitude, generosity, and faith as we move forward together.
