Seeking STEM Professionals for Student Internships & Job Shadows

Parents and alumni, do you work in graphic design, engineering, technology, or other STEM related fields? We are seeking partners for internship or job shadow opportunities for high school students. Our students have hands-on experience in coding, engineering, 3D fabrication, graphic design, and Adobe design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Many of our students already have experience with doing design work in school with business owners from the community. They are excited to learn more from professionals like you and are eager to see how their skills apply in real-world settings.

We are interested in exploring a variety of potential partnerships. Student can be available for one to two hours per day, two to three times per week for internships. Other possibilities include job-shadow programs or even one-time site visits or facilities tours. We also welcome professionals who would be willing to speak to our students here on campus. These experiences are invaluable in helping our students explore career paths and gain practical skills. If interested, please reach out to Aran Glancy at aglancy@hill-murray.org. Thank you for supporting our students’ journeys!

Winter School Pick-Up Reminder

With winter weather approaching, we ask families to avoid picking up students on Larpenteur Avenue. Recently, more vehicles have been stopping on the south side, creating a bottleneck and limiting space for turn lanes and emergency maneuvers. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up process.

Thank you,

Brent Johnson, Bill Beaudette, Aaron Benner, and Mike Whisler

Service-Immersion Trip to Browning, Montana–Blackfeet Reservation

Ten Hill-Murray students traveled to Browning, Montana, to volunteer at De La Salle Blackfeet School on the Blackfeet Reservation. The school, a middle school for grades 4 through 8, is operated by the Christian Brothers.

During their week-long visit, the students played with the children, worked one-on-one with them, read together, and assisted wherever the school needed support. They also had the opportunity to hear from various cultural speakers and spent time exploring Glacier National Park.

The experience included daily prayer, nightly reflections, engaging activities, and living in community for seven days—a transformative and rewarding journey for all involved!

Honors Geometry goes on an Amazing Race

Honors Geometry students tackled several challenging geometrical tasks last week in a fun, interactive activity. To reach the prize, they completed proofs, solved a vocabulary crossword puzzle, and answered questions about congruent triangles. Their efforts ultimately led them to a locker in the hallway secured with a combination lock. If they could figure out the combination before the class ended, they earned a prize!

Ways to Help Build Emotional Resilience in Young People

1. Encourage healthy risk-taking: Gently push young people from their comfort zones through activities that won’t cause harm if they are unsuccessful. (Parents may also experience some discomfort. Gently prevent yourself from stepping back in too soon).

2. Resist the urge to fix the issue and ask questions instead: When we see loved ones hurting, our first instinct is to fix the issue. However, when teaching children emotional resilience, a better approach is to ask thought-provoking questions. Asking questions stimulates self-awareness, allowing students to work through problems logically.

3. Help young people label their emotions: Adolescents can experience a flood of emotions during stressful events. To support stress resilience, help students label their emotions and remind them that even difficult feelings are completely normal and will pass in time.

4. Demonstrate and model coping skills: Emotional turmoil represents an internal conflict of emotions, which can be alleviated through outward actions, reducing overall stress. In order for students to engage in stress-reducing activities, you have to teach coping strategies.

Adoration – Friday, Dec. 6

One of the spiritual practices we celebrate at Hill-Murray is Adoration, which is held in the Hill-Murray Chapel during the school day typically on the first Friday of each month. Adoration is part of the rituals and traditions of the Catholic Church and is open to all members of the Christian faith. Adoration refers to the time when the Blessed Sacrament is placed on the altar and the faithful spend time with Jesus in the Chapel in quiet prayer and reflection.  Our next day of Adoration is Friday, December 6 from 9:15am-1:45pm.  CLICK HERE to sign up for a time.  We will start with Mass at 9:15am (finished by 9:45am).
