Hannah Brandt To Join Hill-Murray Girls Hockey Coaching Staff
Hill-Murray is excited to announce that 2012 Hill-Murray alum, former Minnesota Gopher, Olympic Gold Medalist and professional womens hockey player, Hannah Brandt will be joining the Hill-Murray Girls Hockey coaching staff.
"We are incredibly excited to have Hannah as part of our coaching staff," said Hill-Murray Girls Hockey Co-Head Coach, Bill Schafhauser. "For a player in our program, it will be so awesome to have a former Ms. Hockey,
a 3-time NCAA National Champion, a champion as a pro player with the MN Whitecaps and an Olympic Gold medal winner be one of your coaches!"
"And she's not done yet," Schafhauser continued. "As a world class player, her dream of another Olympic Gold lives on as she continues to be an active USA National Team member. You don't achieve that kind of success without incredible drive, passion and perseverance. Hannah can share so many different experiences with our players and she will garner instant respect as she gets to know our kids on a personal level. She will have an incredible impact on our players."
Brandt will be an Assistant Coach for the Pioneers and will be working with the team as her schedule permits. She is an active National Team player and she works for the Minnesota Wild where she participates in a busy speaking engagement schedule. She, along with current and former MN Wild players visit over 40 elementary schools promoting the "Face-Off For Fitness" program which promotes an active, healthy lifestyle as well as encourages young kids to participate in the game of hockey.
"The HMGH program was an incredible experience for me and I'm excited to be back," Brandt said. "I'm hoping to help the current student-athletes have that same amazing experience that I had as a Pioneer. I can't wait to get to know the team and I hope to make a positive impact on the players both on and off the ice. I'm really excited to just get the season started and I'm also excited to be back with my high school coaches, Caesare Engstrom and Bill Schafhauser, who made a huge impact on me during my time at Hill-Murray... And of course to win some games!"
"Caesare and I had a blast coaching Hannah during her five years as a Pioneer," Schafhauser added. "She and her H-M teammates helped build the foundation of success for our program. To have her come full circle and want to coach at the pinnacle of her career is a very proud moment for us. We know the players might be a little in awe of her at first but Hannah is still humble, funny and they will learn so, so much from her. I know we as coaches will too!"
Brandt will be honored on September 29, 2019 when she is inducted into the Hill-Murray Athletic Hall of Fame. The Pioneers start their season with a home game against Stillwater on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Aldrich Arena.
