The Student Council at Hill-Murray is a dedicated committee of students from every grade that organizes service and social activities for the entire school.   The group’s goal is to provide meaningful (and fun) events for the students and act as their voice when speaking to the School Administration.  In that regard, the Student Council encourages students and faculty to share their ideas and input on anything concerning the school facilities, or issues related to student life.

The Student Council is divided into three sub-committees:  Student Life, Service, and Activities.  The Student Life committee proposes improvements to the school building or school policies that would benefit the students.  In recent years, the Council has recommended changes that were subsequently adopted by the Administration such as installing new drinking fountains and increasing passing time between classes.

The Activities Committee focuses on planning the major theme weeks during the school year, such as Homecoming, Christmas Week, and Spring Fling Week, all of which involve planning dances, pep rallies, picnics and out-of-uniform days.  The Service Committee is involved with creating service opportunities for our students, such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Red Cross Blood Drive.

The students that make up this Council are creative and dedicated leaders who are willing to devote many hours of their time outside of school for the community.  Students that wish to join student council should be hard working, willing to serve their classmates and embrace a positive attitude.  Student Council Elections for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students are in the fall, and elections for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students are in previous spring.  Each Middle School grade has two representatives who are elected by popular vote.  Each High School grade has six representatives-- four of whom are elected by popular vote, and two of whom are elected through an interview process.  Announcements will be made concerning elections when the time is necessary.  Interested students may also contact their grade representatives for more information about any upcoming event.
