North St. Paul American Legion Post 39:  The Scholarship Committee is interested in why you have genuine financial need, what your vocational plans are, and what brought you to that choice.  Deadline is March 5.  Several other legion scholarships are available to students who are children, grandchildren, adopted children or stepchildren of an American Legion member or an auxiliary member.  Deadlines vary.  Pick up applications and instructions from Mrs. McPherson.

Coss Family Foundation:  Applications are available beginning January 1st at www.sms.scholarshipamerica.org/cossfamily.  Open to students from Ramsey and Dakota counties who are planning to enroll at least half-time in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited degree granting two-or four-year college or university, including a technical college. Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial need, academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, unusual personal or family circumstances, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation.  Awards will be $500 to $3500 based on financial need and are renewable over four years.

Bernard C. Harris Memorial Scholarship Program:  Students must demonstrate financial need, entrepreneurial spirit, superior family values and a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Deadline is March 21.

American Cancer Society:  Proud to announce the availability of a limited number of scholarships to students who have been diagnosed with cancer.  The awards will be paid directly to the college of choice.  The committee will select recipients on the basis of their commitment to academic or vocational goals, current financial need, leadership, and community service.  Deadline is March 15.

American Association of University Women:  Offering up to four $3,000 scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Students must be in the upper one-fifth of their class and plan to attend any accredited four-year college or university.  The committee will select the women on the basis of financial need, test scores, scholastic achievement, and school and community activities.  One of these scholarships may be awarded in the name of Lilian Osborn to a student who shows promise in poetry, submits three poems and has the recommendation of her English teacher.  Deadline is March 15.

North Maplewood Lioness Club:  Will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to students who are residents of Maplewood.  The award will be based on scholarship, citizenship and financial need.  A personal letter and a recommendation from a faculty member are required.  Deadline is March 31.

Page Education Foundation:  Grants are available to students of color who plan to attend MN colleges, universities or vocational schools next year.  In return for Page grants, recipients must annually complete a service project-helping K-8th grade children of color for about two hours each week of the school year.  An essay, financial information and two letters of recommendation are required.  Deadline is May 1.

UNICO:  Scholarships are available to students of Italian heritage.  Students must live in the 11 county Twin Cities area, must have taken the ACT or SAT, have at least a 3.5 GPA and be able to demonstrate financial need.  Deadline is April 1.

Anna M. Kuhl:  This scholarship is for students residing in specific communities (long-term resident of St. Paul or nearby community) who plan on attending specific post-secondary institutions.  Please see sample on Guidance and Counseling bulletin board.  Pick up an application if you meet eligibility requirements.  Deadline is March 30.

North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Rotary Club:  This club has donated funds to provide scholarships for high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college.  Students must be residents of District 622, have an above average GPA, and have demonstrated leadership in the community.  Students must also have demonstrated a positive attitude toward home, school and community.  Three letters of recommendation are required.  Deadline is April 4.

Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce:  Three $500 scholarships will be offered to students who are residents of Cottage Grove, Newport, or St. Paul Park.  Students will be selected based on responses to essay questions, participation and leadership in school and community activities, work experience, personal circumstances leading to need, and academic achievement.  Applications will be accepted between March 17 and April 18.

Maplewood-Oakdale Lions Club:  Will award up to seven $1,000 scholarships to students who will be attending an accredited college of vocational/technical school in the fall of 2008.  An application and a letter of recommendation are required.  Finalists will have personal interviews held at Tartan High School.  Deadine is March 17 to Counseling.

Woodbury Lions Club:  Will provide four scholarships to graduating seniors residing in Woodbury.  These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of service to community, extracurricular activities, GPA and personal/reference letters.  Deadline is April 22.
