Hill-Murray School Admissions Process - A Step by Step Guide

  1. Browse through the Hill-Murray School website to become familiar with our school’s staff, academic programs, athletics, and other cocurricular activities.

  1. Contact us to schedule a school visit.  Students considering Hill-Murray are invited to spend a day visiting classes with a Hill-Murray host student.  It’s a perfect way to find out more about academics, meet H-M students and staff, and experience the friendly community we offer.  We also provide a complimentary lunch!

Apart from students visiting for a day,  parents and students may schedule a tour of our facilities and meet individually with a member of the Admissions staff.  School tours are given on Mondays and Thursdays from 8-11 a.m. and last approximately one hour.  Please call Peggy Quam at 651-748-2406 to set up a tour of our campus and meet with the Admissions Director.  Additional tour dates and times are available on request.

  1. Parents and students are invited to attend the fall Open House on October 25, 2007 at 7 pm.  The evening will include a short auditorium program and video presentation, followed by classroom tours during which teachers introduce the Hill-Murray curricula.  Tours are guided by current students; you’ll have the chance to meet them and get answers to all of your questions from the people who know the most about Hill-Murray . . . our students.  The evening concludes with a reception and the opportunity to talk with staff about admissions, curriculum, transportation, and cocurricular activities.  You’ll also be able to see the complete range of facilities, including the recently remodeled auditorium and the new sports center.

  1. Print, complete, and send the application and information release form to H-M school.  And print, complete and send the transcript release form to your son’s or daughter’s current school.  To download forms, see links below.

  1. If the fall Open House doesn't work for you, attend the winter Open House on January 10, 2008.  It begins at 7 pm and includes the same program features as in the fall.

  1. Take the Placement Exam at Hill-Murray on January 19, 2008.  It is not an entrance exam. This exam, required for all new incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, is used to place students in math and English courses appropriate to their abilities and knowledge.  The exam is also a prerequisite for eligibility for a number of Hill-Murray scholarships.  Application materials (application, information release form) are also due at the placement exam.  Students taking the Placement Exam will also select elective courses the day of the exam.  Final course selection and placement are not determined until the student file is complete and the applicant is accepted for admission.

The exam begins at 8:30 AM and takes approximately three hours.  Student and parents are asked to arrive by 8:15 to register.  Students should bring    $10 (registration fee) and two #2 pencils.  Parents may wait if they wish; we offer parents complimentary coffee and continental breakfast, as well as the day’s newspapers.  While students are testing, there is also an optional informal parent meeting at which parents may address questions to the Admissions Director and other staff on any topic.

  1. Apply for Tuition Assistance.  Applications for tuition assistance are due to the Tuition Aid Data Services (TADS) Company by February 28, 2008. Access www.tuitionaid.com to complete the TADS form online or stop by the Business Office for a TADS packet. The TADS application fee is $29. For assistance in completing the TADS materials, call 612-238-3554

  1. Acceptance letters and tuition contracts will be mailed to accepted students in late February. Tuition contracts and the $300.00 deposit are due two weeks after the applicant receives his or her acceptance letter.  At that time final course selection and placement will be determined.

Do you still have questions?  Please call or e-mail the Admissions Office (651-748-2406).  We are here to assist you in the process.
