About Us
Hill-Murray is a Catholic Benedictine prep school for grades 7-12. Having just commemorated the 50th anniversary of the first graduating class, we also celebrate our very bright future. Every day, our students are invited to find a home in Hill-Murray, a place where they are known, respected and loved. Here, they are encouraged to grow in their faith, in what they know and can do, and in the way they treat themselves, others and the world around them.
Located on a 40-acre site in suburban Maplewood, Hill-Murray High School was formed in 1971 as a coed high school through the merger of Archbishop Murray Memorial High School, a school for girls founded by the Sisters of St. Benedict and Hill High School, a school for boys founded by the Christian Brothers. A middle school was added in 1989 and our name was changed to Hill-Murray School. Originally founded to provide Catholic education to students living on the east side of St. Paul and inner-ring suburbs, over the last ten years, the school has broadened its demographic base, and now draws from a 40-mile radius, from Forest Lake to the north, Hastings to the south and Hudson, Wisconsin to the east. The current student population is 720, approximately 80 percent of whom are Catholic and 10 percent are students of color.
At Hill-Murray, we are known for our academics. We are respected for our arts and athletics. We are loved for our Catholic Benedictine faith community.

When we ask people outside our school what they think of when they hear, "Hill-Murray,'' the most common answer is "rigorous academics.'' The academic bar is, indeed, high. And, we make no apologies. Our students are serious about their studies, about preparing for success in college and about defining their place in the world beyond school. The culture at Hill-Murray is structured and disciplined. Our students, with a variety of learning needs, thrive on that structure and discipline. As a Hill-Murray student you will be part of that high-achieving academic community that is known throughout the Twin Cities and beyond. You will also be known within that community. Fellow students, teachers, coaches and our chaplain will know your name. They'll get to know what classes you have and what your hobbies are. And, if you're having a bad day, chances are, someone's going to notice. Don't be surprised if someone lays a hand on your shoulder, asks for a high-five or shoots you a "you okay?'' as you're walking down the hall. At Hill-Murray, we care about each other. We're here for one another. You won't be alone. You will receive the support you need. You will be known.
Our arts and athletics are respected throughout the Twin Cities. We have received awards for our theatre, band and sports programs. In addition, the range of activities we offer is wide and varied. We provide an encouraging and nurturing environment where students feel comfortable trying new things. Taking on new challenges deserves respect. And, that's what you'll get here, no matter what you choose. Try out for a play or take up the trumpet. Join the tennis team or try lending an ear as a Peer Listener. There is a special place for you here at Hill-Murray, where you'll be encouraged and inspired to be all you can be. For your achievements, for your effort, for just taking a chance - you'll be respected
Our kids are known, respected and loved in countless ways. At Hill-Murray, we care about each other. We're here for one another. You won't be alone. You will receive the support you need. You will be loved.
