I am currently a sophomore. I came from Transfiguration in Oakdale. It was a big change for me because I came from a small school to a big school. Since I have been at Hill-Murray, I loved it. It is a great school for education, sports and arts.

I am involved with co-curricular activities. I play volleyball, basketball and softball. It is an easy way to meet new friends and people so you don’t feel scared on your first day of school. It is also so much fun to go cheer on all the Pioneers at sporting events.

It is great that they have peer tutors at Hill-Murray. They can help you with any subject, good study skills and homework.

I love listening to country music and sports. I’ve been playing sports since I was little. I’ve done gymnastic, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball. I have to say my favorite sport is softball. The past summer I got to play in a tournament with my sister, who is three years older than me. It was such a blast and a great experience. Sports are a great way for me to have closer friends and all my teams are like family to me. We bond so much and become so close. I can always be myself around them.

Sports help me clear my head if I had a rough day or just want to get away for a little bit. Music helps me clear my mind as well. I could listen to music all day if I could.

In the future I hope to see myself with a healthy family, a husband, kids and working as a full time pediatrician. I plan on graduating college and working hard to fulfill my dreams.

My favorite things in life are my family, friends, getting a good education; getting a good paying job, and I can be myself around anybody.

I am involved in many ways and it is so much fun having so many activities to be involved in. I participate in three sports per year. I am also a drummer in the band which is so much fun.

When I started at Hill Murray as a 7th grader I was so nervous that I would get lost or not make friends or just not have good grades. All of these worries did not occur at Hill Murray. All of the teachers help you if you need extra assistance. The upperclassmen are extremely welcoming and helpful, especially when I first started school and would occasionally get lost or just needed someone to talk to.

What I love about Hill Murray is that there is a place for anyone, whether you enjoy chess or speech or tennis. I also love how it's such a spiritual community. The teachers help you so much whether you need guidance, homework help or a friend, which is great! The people you meet here are so pleasant to be around. They help you through the rough spots and they are always with you. I will always remember the people I have met at Hill-Murray.

There are many activities that you can be involved in at Hill-Murray. I am planning to be involved in the girls hockey team, the volleyball team, and I am planning to run track.  I am starting to take interest in peer tutoring and peer listening.

In the two months that I have been at Hill I feel I have grown spiritually and educationally. Hill-Murray is an exceptional Benedictine prep school. We have a wonderful religious community and great religion teachers. Hill-Murray has a wonderful system. They let people go at their own pace whether it is a year ahead or at the grade they are supposed to be at. The teachers make sure you are getting the right attention in a subject that you are struggling in; which is very gracious because of  how busy they are.

I love Hill-Murray! Many people call their school just school but when you visit Hill-Murray, you will realize why we call it Home.

Hill-Murray. My school and my community. I came to Hill-Murray last year and I have already made so many great memories. I remember my first day here and the excitement that came with it. I remember orientation day, the Deep Portage trip, Halloween, Retreat day, Valley Fair, and my first Pioneer Seminar. These are some of my bigger memories, but there are more. These memories are just memories, but why I remember them is important. I remember my first day at Hill-Murray because I was so excited to finally get to go to middle school and be able to walk without having to be in a straight line. I remember the Deep Portage trip because it was the first time I had ever gone on a trip without my parents. I remember orientation day because all the Link leaders were so kind and so helpful. That is just one thing I love about Hill-Murray.

I love Hill-Murray's students. All the older kids are very helpful if you can not open your locker or if you need help finding your class. I also love Hill-Murray's class sizes. I am never in a class with just a few other people or a few dozens of people. My favorite part about Hill-Murray is the closeness of everybody. If you are having a bad day, I guarantee that at least one person, student or staff, will ask you what is wrong.

Sports time. Last year I played on the Freshman basketball team and on the Junior-Varsity lacrosse team. I had so much fun at the games and practices!

I have already grown so much at Hill-Murray in just one year! I have grown in my relationship with God, my academic life, my social life, and in height. I have learned to trust God and to remember math formulas. I can only hope that I can continue to grow in all these ways as I continue my experience at Hill-Murray.

My experience at Hill-Murray since transferring a year ago has been a positive one. The sense of community here is so astounding. All the students and staff are welcoming. The academics are challenging, but the teachers are encouraging and concerned for each student’s development. Another thing I like about Hill-Murray is the emphasis placed on the students to give back to our community. Over the past year I had many enriching service experiences. Some of my services included caring for elders at a nursing home, helping coach a youth basketball camp for future Pioneers, and assisting with low income children at a dental clinic. Finally, I cannot finish talking about my experience without mentioning how important Coach Herman and my teammates have been in my Hill-Murray experience.  Their positive energy and support has been amazing – you are all the best!

Hill-Murray is an amazing school. My experiences at Hill-Murray have been great so far this year. Some of my favorite parts of the school are the academics, the community and athletics.

The teachers are the best part of my academic experience; all of the teachers are dedicated and come in to class every day like there is nowhere they’d rather be. I love their enthusiasm and all that they do for their students.

Our Hill-Murray community is so welcoming and everyone is respectful to each other. Another great aspect of our community is being able to talk about God. Teachers often pray before class and that makes it feel like a safe and loving environment.

I love Hill-Murray and there is no school I’d rather be attending.

Advice for new students: Don’t be afraid to approach people even if you're scared. Chances are, they're pretty nervous too. Sometimes the quietest people turn out to be the most outgoing and fun! Don’t be afraid to mess up or trip up the stairs every once in a while. Everyone does it. Don’t dwell on the mistakes; look forward to what's coming. Getting a bad grade on a test isn't the end of the world, and be sure to get a cookie every day at lunch; they’re addictive. Get involved in co-curricular stuff, it's where you meet people!
