General Information: The German Club is open to all students at Hill-Murray. Come and join in any activity that appeals to you. The German Club promotes respect for all cultures and shares the German heritage with the wider school community.
Activities: Oktoberfest Waldsee, German Concordia Language Village Black Forest Inn restaurant visit German movies at the U of MN Visit the Twin Cities German Immersion School Community Service at German festivals in St. Paul Exchange Program Partnership International
*German students plan and execute a school-wide Oktoberfest celebration, introducing the festivities with announcements, German music and a wonderful spread of authentic foods. A keg of root beer is at the center of the festivities.
*German Club members participate in the exchange program Partnership International. When a group of German exchange students come to Minnesota, Hill-Murray students and their families can offer to host them for three weeks.
*The German Club has a partnership with the Twin Cities German Immersion School, a charter school in St. Paul. Once a year, hill- Murray students can do community service by visiting the school and reading to the Kindergarten and 1st grade students at TCGIS. They also are invited to chaperone their carnival fair in February.
*Throughout the year, many German festivals happen in St. Paul, such as Sommerfest, Gartenfest, Rheinfest, Oktoberfest, Festival of Nations. The German Club supports the events in the community and students are able to get service credits for participation in these festivities.
*The U of MN German Department occasionally puts on German plays and hosts movie nights and concerts by German artists. Everyone is invited and welcome to watch these events. The German Club is committed to making German students aware of these opportunities. |
