Academic Triathlon

Hill-Murray students have been participating in Academic Triathlon for over 10 years.  Academic Triathlon is an excellent way to develop creativity, increase knowledge, and build divergent thinking skills, logic, problem solving abilities, and team cooperation. It’s also a perfect way to meet new friends, work with others, and have a great time along the way

Eligibility:  All students in grades 7-8 are eligible to participate. No tryouts are required.

Teams: Teams are composed of five members plus alternates. The number of teams will be determined by the number of students who wish to participate.

Meets:  Meets are held on Fridays after school and into the evenings. Parents are encouraged to come to the final event: Party in a Box. There are three meets with other competing schools during the year, plus a regional meet.

Practices: Practices are held after school about once per week in November – March.

What is involved: Three events comprise an AT meet.  All team members participate in every event. The events are Mind Sprints, individual or team quick problems to solve; Face-Off, similar to a quiz bowl on academic subjects, current events and other issues; and Party in a Box, in which teams receive a problem and equipment and have a limited to time to come up with a short play that demonstrates the problem solution.
